Move Poles ‘n’ Wires to another computer
To move your existing installation of a registered version of Poles ‘n’ Wires you need to install the software on the new computer then copy over some files.
To install the software:
- get the latest setup package from the Downloads link on our website.
- Install the package then apply for an activation code. The activation codes are unique to each computer so you will need a new licence for a new PC, or if you reinstall or upgrade Windows. You cannot use the licence file from your old installation.
You will probably also want to copy over your settings and database. Follow the below steps to do this:
Version 6
Copy these files from your existing installation:
- poleswires.ini
- options.ini
- pnw.mdb
Save them into c:\polesnwires (or the program directory if you did not use the default location)
Version 7
Copy these files from your existing installation (they are in the data directory – shortcut under the Windows Start Menu)
- pnw.ini
- pnwdata.xml
- pnwdata-custom-poles.xml
Save them into the corresponding data directory in the new computer.
If you use your existing licence file on a new computer you will get an error. See this post for help with that problem.
