Pin or strain for uplift?

The profiler can indicate when there might be a problem with uplift on a pole. There are a few ways you can compensate for uplift:

• reduce tension in the conductor
• install a bigger pole
• replace a pin construction with a strain construction

Many utilities indicate they permit zero uplift so one of these solutions will be required.

When can you still use a pin construction if uplift is indicated? The issue is avoiding strain on the tie wires. Your utility’s design manual may give guidance.
