How Can We Help?
Pole strength module – Energex
The following instructions will allow you to use the version 7 pole strength module (safety factor method tab) to generate the same results as Mainsdes. You will need to perform the calculations in 3 steps.
Enter pole dimensions and ground level section as usual.
Material strength factors
In Mainsdes these values are called Material strength factors for working stress method and component strength factor for limit state design. However they are used the same way in the calculations so in Poles ‘n’ Wires are just called Material strength factor (MSF).
No wind (EDT)
Enter 0.228 for MSF1. This is from ODM section 2-12 sheet 1. 0.4 x 0.57 = 0.228.
The result is shown as Load case 2.
Maximum working (MWT)
- Enter 0.5 for MSF2. This is the traditional working stress/safety factor method for wind load.
- Tick Subtract wind on pole
- Enter the value provided by Energex for “diameter at 1.2m” in mm in Average above ground diameter
- Enter 1.1 for pole top allowance
- Enter 750 for wind pressure
The result is shown as Load case 1.
Limit state (LST)
- Enter 0.72 for MSF2. This is from ODM section 2-12 sheet 1.
- Tick Subtract wind on pole
- Enter the value provided by Energex for “diameter at 1.2m” in mm in Average above ground diameter
- Enter 1.1 for pole top allowance
- Enter 1300 for wind pressure
The result is shown as Load case 1.
